Guest Post: Hello Kitty Coffee Cozy Pattern

Hello all! Today I have another adorable crochet pattern from one of our guest bloggers! For all you Hello Kitty fans out there, this is the perfect accent to your coffee cup. Now you can keep your hands from being burned on your hot drink, and do it in style!

G hook
Worsted weight yarn (I used red heart super saver)
Black felt

Cozy:
Chain 37. Join with a slip stitch.
Sc around (36)
Sc around for 11 rounds
Sc a few stitches, 6 Dc in next stitch, sc 11 more stitches, 6 Dc in next stitch, sc remaining stitches. Break yarn. Weave in ends

Bow: chain 6
Sc for 11 rows
Break yarn
Weave in ends
Cut a LONG piece of yarn and wrap it around the middle of the red strip so it looks like a bow. Leave enough yarn to sew with. Thread the needle and run the needle under the yarn you just wrapped around and sew to the cozy. Bring the needle back out and repeat a couple times till secure.

Cut felt eyes and hot glue onto cozy. Either embroider or cut a piece of felt for the nose. Embroider on whiskers. GO BUY SOME COFFEE!:D

Please let us know if you have any problems with the pattern.  And, please, PLEASE! send us pictures if you crochet this cozy:)

Please do not in any way sell this pattern or the coffee cozy.  "Hello Kitty" is copyright of Sanrio.

  5. I'm a newbie!

Can you give some more details about how to embroider on the whiskers and nose? I get the concept of embroidery, but I've never done it. Just want to make sure my Coffee cozy is Perfect!

Thanks! I can't wait to crochet this!

    1. Hi Tiffany! I'm excited that you're trying this out! Feel free to please send pictures to fancythatnotion{at}gmail{dot}com when you're finished!:)So for the nose and whiskers she used yarn and a yarn needle (a large, plastic needle that yarn fits through. You probably know that:). Thread one side of the yarn through the needle and tie a knot in the other side, leaving the first side loose. The knot will keep it from slipping through. Simply poke the needle from the back through where you want the whisker to be (poke through a "natural" hole, not straight through a piece of yarn). Poke back through where you want the whisker to end. Do the same with the other two. I would probably sew the whiskers on one side, tie a knot on the back and cut the yarn, and then repeat for the other side and the nose. Let me know if you still need help!:)

  6. This is SO adorable! I wonder if I can make one of these? I can crochet straight lines...do you think I'm too much of a beginner to attempt something like this?

    1. Thanks so much FringeGirl! And thank YOU for hosting the party:) I've been following you on FB for a while, you can check us out at Fancy That Notion on FB as well:)

I talked to my friend, and she said you should be able to do this! She suggested using a bobby pin on your first stitch to help count:) Please let me know if you need more help with this. And feel free to send pictures if you make this!:)

    2. And for every round, you have to move the bobby pin up. If this is confusing just email Fancy That Notion :)

  15. My sister is a fan of "Hello Kitty" (and all felines). I'm going to attempt this pattern, as I know she would love it! I've made hats, and am familiar with the technique for keeping track of rounds. It's been a while, but after some practice I hope it'll all come back to me. Thanks so much for sharing this! :-)

P.S. for FANCY THAT NOTION: I made a hat for my grandson about 10 years ago. It was my first hat, and the first time I had to keep track of rounds. They make little plastic circular thingies for this purpose, but I didn't have any, and it was late at night. I used a twist tie from a loaf of bread! A bobby pin will work well; I'm sure. So, go for it. Relax and enjoy. You got this!
